Blast from the Past Theatre presents...

A Victorian Christmas
The 2011 tour was hugely successful and due to popular demand Victorian Christmas will be available in 2012 alongside 'A MEDIEVAL CHRISTMAS.'
The Victorians virtually invented the modern idea of Christmas with crackers, presents and cards, so explore the traditions and sounds of Victorian Yuletide. The fully costumed show includes carols and songs, tunes, stories and a traditional mummer's play (the forerunner of pantomime!) Song sheets are available for the audience to join in and the emphasis is very much on inclusion and participation. There are four performers, three singer/instrumentalists and one singer/storyteller. Between them the instrumentalists play piano (if available) organ (if available) piano accordion, melodeon, oboe, flute and waldzither. They sing carols, some well known for the audience to join in with, and some more obscure, plus Victorian parlour songs. Their ten-minute mummers play, in which St George battles the Turkish Knight, recalls times past, and there's a story - told in two parts with a cliffhanger - for children of all ages.

"Victorian Christmas - A engaging performance. The
combination of music, song, story, and play was both entertaining and
interesting. Our audience embraced the show with enthusiasm. The Turk
was slain not once but twice! Never have we seen such a shinny colander!" - Ann Green, Kirkham Concerts, 2011 |
A Medieval Christmas
