Bob ChicagoBritain's finest blues and boogie pianist, Bob Hall’s distinctive piano style has influenced generations of piano players and left a lasting legacy. He came to fame in the r‘n’b explosion of the sixties, leading bands whose sidemen included members of The rolling Stones, Fleetwood Mac and Manfred Mann . Bob’s restless spirit then took him in new directions, writing and performing music from blues, boogie, gospel, folk and country sources. He is now recognised as a composer of distinction, with a catalogue of finely crafted songs. Each song tells a story - often with a humorous sting in the tail, always delivered in Bob’s disarming, understated vocal style and accompanied by his electrifying keyboard wizardry.

“Bob’s playing is an absolute joy throughout.” - Rock’n’Reel

Bob & HilaryThe Bob Hall Show is pure enjoyment, full of energy and enthusiasm. Much credit for this goes to Bob’s long-time partner, Hilary Blythe, whose crystal-clear harmony vocals and rock-steady bass playing underpin his performances. A diminutive dynamo, Hilary’s own moving treatment of blues and gospel classics are highlights of their show.

Bob and Hilary’s concerts and their self-penned musical shows, "Good Liquor! Hard Times" and "The Wrong Side of the Tracks", have been acclaimed in the UK and worldwide, by audiences at festivals, clubs and arts venues.

"The style is crisp and urgent in the romping boogie tracks and hauntingly reflective in the blues items." Yorkshire Post

No Bob Hall show is complete without the anecdotes: a lifetime of music, together and a passion for the minutiae of American folk and blues history, has left Bob with a host of yarns, some true, some apocryphal, which can be guaranteed to raise a smile. Bob has made (literally) hundreds of recordings, most still available on CD. Whilst his contemporaries went on to international fame, Bob chose to stay in London, pursuing his legal career and acting as accompanist to a host of legendary bluesmen including John Lee Hooker and Chuck Berry.

“.. absolute mastery of the blues piano. Thundering left hand and wry lyrics.” Buzz

“I enjoyed his gentle wistful vocal style … As ever Bob’s boogie and blues piano is entirely authentic.”Jazz Journal

Themed Shows

The touring Bob Hall Shows are themed musicals for arts centres, theatres, village halls and similar arts venues. All feature Bob on piano, vocals and occasionally mandolin and Hilary Blythe on bass, vocals and guitar. In addition to Bob and Hilary, two of the current shows also feature the well-known radio presenter Henry Ayrton on guitar, harmonica and vocals.

The duo shows include a variety of blues, boogie, gospel and country material, with many self-penned compositions and some unusual songs and tunes from Bob's voluminous record collection. All the Bob Hall shows are intended for general as well as specialist audiences and are enlivened by humorous anecdotes from Bob's historical research and personal experiences on the road.

PosterGood Liquor, Hard Times

During the years of Prohibition - the least observed of all US laws - blues, jazz, boogie woogie, gospel and country music all made the journey from their Southern roots to the teeming Northern cities of Chicago and New York. Share anecdotes of the men and women who lived and played through the great depression, creating the music of the 20th century.  Join in with a hand-clapping, foot-tapping blues and boogie woogie party and go home with a smile on your face.

wrong sideThe Wrong Side of the Tracks

The rhythm of the train permeated all aspects of American music. The passengers - gamblers, preachers, field-hands and city  folk - all left their mark on our musical heritage from the twentieth century. Eavesdrop as they recount their stories of life on the wrong side of the tracks in a barn-storming show that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the end of the line.
